Intermediate Level
Build greater independence, precision, and coordination.
Level 3 marks the beginning of the Intermediate stage of the Helios Harmony Certification pathway. Building on the foundations established in Levels 1 and 2, you will begin bringing the individual elements of the system together into more advanced and increasingly independent work.
At this level, you will develop greater control of tempo and balance, introduce the first half steps, progress to double long reins, and begin more advanced lateral work both from the ground and with a rider.
Level 3 includes:
- Independent lunging in all three gaits, including changes of tempo
- Single-rein long lining with the introduction of half steps
- Introduction to double long reins
- Progressive in-hand work in walk and trot
- Leg yield, shoulder-in, and counter shoulder-in
- Jaw and poll flexions in movement
- Assisted In-Hand work in walk and trot
- More advanced ridden countdowns, flexions, and rein-backs
As in the previous levels, you will watch the assigned training videos and submit videos demonstrating your own work. Each assessment is personally reviewed, and you must successfully complete each stage before moving forward.
“The best explanation of how to adapt to your horse I’ve ever heard. I have often been told that one needs to adapt to each individual horse but never been taught how. Thank you for opening the door to this mystical process.”
~ Clare Gallagher
“The progress with her is wild and I’ve changed nothing other than doing the in-hand work. Somehow it makes my riding better also even though I’ve barely had a lesson.”
~ Helios student
“Superb presentation. Rupert is so thorough in his explanations. So many coaches and trainers omit to explain the context and process of how a horse and handler/rider learn, which often leads to confusion. Rupert anticipates where we might run into difficulties and then explains what to do, encouraging us not to lose hope when things go wrong.”
~ Theresa
Most assessment videos may be up to 2 minutes 30 seconds long. Where an exercise requires more time to demonstrate safely and clearly, a longer maximum video length will be stated on that assessment.
You may submit a maximum of three attempts for each assessment. If improvements are needed, use your assessor’s feedback to refine your work before resubmitting.
We are not looking for perfection. We are looking for safe, thoughtful training, a clear understanding of the exercises, and increasing independence and communication between horse and handler or rider.
On successful completion, you will receive your Helios Harmony Level 3 Certification and become eligible to continue to Level 4.
Level 3 is available to students who have successfully completed Helios Harmony Certification Level 2. Level 3 is purchased separately.
